Visiting 23 Post Skelmorlie

Skelmorlie ROC Post is located near the village of Skelmorlie, Ayrshire, just north of Largs on the A78. The post is a private museum and is not open to the general public apart from open days and by prior arrangement with the Chief Observer.

We can accept parties of up to approximately twelve people, however due to health and safety regulations we can only allow a maximum of six people underground at any one time. This means that most groups are split in half, with one half recieving a talk above ground while the other is underground inside the post.

Access to the post is by way of a 15ft vertical ladder fixed to the wall of the entrance shaft and you should be in good health and able to ascend and descend this ladder if you wish to visit the inside of the post. Full instruction by experienced staff will be given on the correct procedure for entering and exiting the post and you are under no obligation to enter the post if you feel uncomfortable doing so.

There is currently no charge for visiting 23 Post Skelmorlie, however donations are greatfully appreciated. Any monies donated go towards the upkeep of the post or are donated to the local ROC Association for ex members of the Corps.

The gallery has a number of images from some of our previous open days. If you are interested in arranging a visit to 23 Post, please contact the Chief Observer.
